Chocolate Birthday Cake

Chocolate Birthday Cake

Birthdays… what a special day! It’s the day that you arrive in this world and bring joy and fun and laughter to the people around you. Birthdays are joyous and should be celebrated, be it big or small. Some like to hold parties and big birthday celebrations, while some prefer to it to be small and private – just for family and close friends. Whichever group you belong too, the one thing that is a must-have on birthdays is a birthday cake. Or anything celebratory – the world is so modernized now, who says birthdays must be celebrated with cakes and cakes only? It can be brownies or cheesecakes… I’ve seen people using macaroons to celebrate their friend’s birthday! They bought a couple of macaroons, stick the lighted candles in them, and then sing away! What a simple and splendid idea! One will never know that it’s his/her birthday “cake”.

I baked this cake for my friend’s friend’s birthday. I’ve baked this cake before, but this time, instead of baking as small little cakes, I baked it as a 7-inch round cake, splitted it into 3 layers, and layering with chocolate mousse, whipped cream and then topping with chocolate mousse. Instead of using a semi-sweet chocolate collar, I used a marbled chocolate collar, by first piping lines of melted semi-sweet chocolate in zig-zag motion over the parchment paper and letting it dry before spreading with a layer of melted white chocolate. Up till now, I still have no idea what melted white chocolate looks like, it doesn’t look melted, though it’s spreadable. And I caused some of the supposedly-dried semi-sweet chocolate to melt after I spread the white chocolate on it, resulting in a marbled effect instead. But it still looks pretty good… to me at least. d=

Well, examination are looming… hence I think I will stop baking for a short while and focus on my studies. Think I’ll only be back after April, till then!

P.S. To those who are having their birthdays, happy birthday! (=
